Fruit Diet
The Fruit Diet is relatively new in recent years and it is
most certainly not apart of the main stream dieting community.
Unlike vegetarians, Fruitarian's are very limited in what they
can eat. As the diet suggests you can only eat fruit with the
addition of a few, nuts and seeds. Some variations allow the
addition of a few vegetables or oils such as olive or
grapeseed. To a true Fruitarian or a follower of the Fruit
Diet, this would be completely unacceptable.
The psychology in eating fruit alone comes from the theory
or belief that if you only eat fruit, nuts and seeds you are
not harming the plant in any form. For example if you picked an
apple from the tree, it would not hurt the tree and it would
encourage growth for the following fruiting season. I am all
for the idea of not harming animals, trees or plants but I must
say that I would need something more substantial than fruit.
The fruit diet does not permit bottled water as it contains far
too many minerals and chemicals of an un-natural source. You
can get bottled water that is lower in minerals - it comes from

On a positive note; I have read various stories and comments
in different communities and it seems that a person partaking
in a fruit diet won't contract common aliments such as colds or
flu's. And if they hurt themselves it will heal alot quicker.
There have been reports of well being and overall health along
with a substantial amount of weight loss in a small amount of
time. (Mind you I can think of much easier ways to lose
weight than following a fruit diet.) Whilst this
appears to be brilliant for those of you seeking a quick fix,
there is a nasty side to the Fruit Diet.
Despite the benefits of the Fruit Diet above, there is a
nasty reaction that may occur; some people have contracted a
yeast mouth infection! Yikes. For women yeast infections are
awful at the best of times let alone in your mouth. I would
highly suspect that in the first days of eating fruit alone
that you would feel fatigue and suffer headaches. The weight
loss would probably be water and a decrease in muscle mass.
There is also concern from a social perspective. Being
restricted to eating fruit does not allow for much choice when
eating out with friends and family. This diet must play havoc
on your mental state because some fruit diet followers suggest
the welcoming of being in a hungry state. Surely this must
cause binge eating?
The Fruit Diet recommends or should I say does not limit the
amount of the fruit you can eat each day. In fact I think you
can eat as much as you like. The nuts and seeds are in place to
give you the necessary fats because fruit is very low in fat.
You can also add tomato and cucumbers as they are considered
fruits. I would like to see the recommendation of doctor or a
physician regarding this diet! And I think you should too.
Whether you want to follow the Fruit Diet for health or
weight loss or a combination of both, please DO
NOT attempt to do so without the "okay" of your
medical professional. More to the point, I have no idea how you
will find a doctor that is agreeable to the diet. It lacks so
many of the major food groups that we need to survive or
maintain long healthy lives. The world is evolving with gourmet
chefs who specialize in low fat, low carb or high protein
diets, there is no need to put yourself through agony by
following the Fruit Diet!
