Low Carb Food

Eating low carb food can make a big change to your diet. There are several variations of this particular diet strategy. And the most popular or well known of them all, would have to be the Atkins Diet. Over the past 5 years or more the Atkins Diet has received so much criticism. This is mainly due to the theory that many dieters following the program will have high cholesterol and heart related problems as a result of eating low carb food and high fat meats. It has almost developed a stigma of eating truck loads of bacon followed by litres of cream! This doesn't have to be the case at all.

If you chose to eat low carb food, you can always opt for leaner cuts of meats. There is also many lower carb varieties in fruits and vegetables. It is more about reducing the amount of starchy or extremely sweet vegetables such as corn. Many low carb eaters follow a healthy nutritious eating plan all in the aid of cutting out the sugar in their diets. Here is a list of some low carb food you could try:

Tuna Lettuce Onion
Salmon Cucumber Leeks
Trout Celery Kale
Sardines Sprouts Brussel Sprouts
Turkey Parsely Zuchinni
Duck Bok Choy Rhubarb
Lobster Peppers Asparagus
Squid Mushrooms Celerly Root
Lamb Cauliflower Spices
Shrimp Blueberries Strawberries
Snow Peas Crabmeat Sour Cream
Beef Raddish Cream Cheese
Vension Broccoli Most Herbs
Eggs Pumpkin Spring Water
Cheese Bamboo Shoots Rasberries
Pork Cabbage Olive Oil

This is only a small amount of the low carb food options that you can choose to add to your diet. You can actually add so much variety and taste to your own eating plan. There does seem to be mixed answers as to whether or not alcohol should be limited during a low carb food diet. I would imagine that drinking alcohol wouldn't be a great idea anyway. Despite the level of carbs contained in beer or wine (there are some low carb options); excessive alcohol can make you have all sorts of binges, headaches and upset stomachs the following day. I would recommend that you avoid the consumption of alcohol where ever possible regardless of the lower carb options.

One of the other concerns with eating low carb food is that the focus tends to be on foods that are higher in protein. Research tells us now that too much protein can cause, stroke, kidney stones or heart disease. As with any eating plan you need to try and balance out what you eat. If you followed a diet high in junk food, you could also develop the above conditions. Moderation is the key no matter what diet you are planning to partake in. Too much of anything will have adverse effects!

The Atkins diet or simply eating low carb foods doesn't have to be about opting for high fat foods. This diet can infact be quite nutritious and healthy, especially with all of the vegetable options. You can make some tasty vegetarian dishes, smoothies or fruit platters with loads of flavor and texture. Use common sense with everything you put in your mouth. Slowly work your way into eating low carb foods. You can do this by reducing the amount of bread, pasta, potatoes and rice. There is no need to go crazy and do it all in one day. Ease yourself into this way of eating over a period of 30 days or so, it will make it much easier to maintain over a longer period of time.
